It is found in Mexico and the south-eastern United States, where it has been recorded from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Virginia.

The wingspan is about 20 mm. The forewings are dark purplish-red with two yellow patches, as well as a small yellow spot in the antemedial area near the costa. The hindwings are similarly coloured, with one large patch in median area and a small spot near the base. There is a black terminal line on both the fore- and hindwings. Adults are on wing from May to August.
