The Colegio de Nuestra Señora del Pilar /ˈpiːlɑːr/ (in English: The School of Our Lady of the Pillar), often referred to as "El Pilar" is an independent co-educational day school for pupils from 3 to 18 years of age located in Calle de Castelló, in Madrid (Spain). It was founded in 1907 by the Society of Mary, a Roman Catholic teaching order of priests and religious brothers, who still continue to operate the institution. Founded as a boys' school, it first admitted girls in 1986, and progressively became fully co-educational. Despite being a religious school, El Pilar is characterized by a liberal and open-minded teaching, with important values such as fellowship, effort and tolerance. Academically the Pilar school is known for its difficulty and excellence. His students are educated in perseverance and effort, with a continuous assessment system that evaluates them throughout the course.
