The 1998 Colchester Borough Council election took place on 7 May 1998 to elect members of Colchester Borough Council in Essex, England. One third of the council was up for election and the Liberal Democrats lost overall control of the council to no overall control.

The Liberal Democrats lost the majority on the council that they had controlled since 1994, after the Conservative and Labour parties made 3 gains each.
