She is the daughter of Anthony Nigel Steel (1925-1983), of Rock House Farm, Lower Froyle, co. Hampshire, and his wife Anne Husted.

She has one brother and one sister:

  • Timothy Michael Steel (born 1952), married the Hon. Sophia Rose Eileen Maude, daughter of Robert Leslie Eustace Maude, 8th Viscount Hawarden and Susannah Caroline Hyde Gardner; with children.
  • Doña Louise del Balzo, dei Duchi di Presenzano (neé Louise Helen Steel; born 1956), married Don Ludovico del Balzo, dei Duchi di Presenzano, son of Count Giulio del Balzo, dei Duchi di Presenzano and Maria Elisabetta, dei Marchese Cavalletti del'Oliveto Sabino; with children.
