The Claiborne County Sheriff's Department, is the primary and largest law enforcement agency in Claiborne County, Mississippi.

History

In 1818, A. Barnes became Claiborne County's first sheriff. Despite having a majority black population, Claiborne has only had three black sheriffs. In 1874, during the period known as Reconstruction, Thomas Bland became the county's first black sheriff. He served for less than a year. It would be over a hundred years before Claiborne would have another black sheriff when Frank Davis took office in 1979. Davis served until 2012, when Marvin Lewis, the current sheriff, took office.

Since the establishment of the Claiborne County Sheriff's Office, two officers have died in the line of duty.
