History

Due to the success of shopping malls around the country, Double Dragon Properties envisioned to have a concept of community mall to serve shoppers for its accessibility and convenience. The CityMall brand was launched in late 2015, with CityMall Arnaldo, Roxas as its first mall.

In 2014, SM Investments Corporation, owner of the country's premier mall chain SM Supermalls acquired 34% of the stake of CityMall Commercial Centers, Inc. leading to its partnership with Double Dragon. In this partnership, the mall's foodcourt will be anchored by Injap and Cakitong's fast food chains like Jollibee, Greenwich, Chowking, Mang Inasal, Red Ribbon, and Highlands Coffee while other retailing outlets will be anchored by SM stores like Watsons Philippines, Ace Hardware, BDO, and SM Appliance Center.

The first branch in Arnaldo St., Roxas City has Robinsons Supermarket and other brands from Robinsons Retail Holdings (owned by John Gokongwei) as anchor tenants. In Zamboanga, CityMall Tetuan, Zamboanga and Grand CityMall Guiwan has Shop-O-Rama Hypermarket as their anhor supermarket while in Iloilo has Iloilo Supermart. Other branches' supermarket are anchored by SM Savemore and as per result to their CityMall's ownership shares with SM.

On November 8, 2016, Grand City Mall Mandalagan made its grand opening, making the first Grand City Mall to open. Unlike in a regular CityMall branch, Grand CityMall had cinemas and twice the size in terms of their gross leasable area.

Although they're new in the mall retail business, CityMall took fast to expand their malls with only 8 months to take for their construction per mall. This makes them optimistic to reach their 100 mall mark by year 2020 with an investment to at least PhP 5 B. Some of the CityMall branches are contracted to at least 26 years with local land developers in the country. This means after 26 years, local developers whom CityMall had deal with shall own and operate the mall.
