The next elections to the City of Edinburgh Council will be held on Thursday 4th May 2017, on the same day as the 31 other local authorities in Scotland. It will be the third successive Local Council election to run under the STV electoral system.

Following the implementation of changes recommended by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland the number of councillors to be elected will increase from 58 to 63. This will also be the first election contested on new boundaries since the 2007 election. While the number of wards will remain at 17, five wards:
will now elect 4 councillors instead of 3. The Meadows/Morningside ward has also been renamed as Morningside.
