Introduction

Students' Union is the sole organization representing all members of the union in City University of Hong Kong. The principal organization of the Union shall be: General Polling and General Meeting, Allied Meeting, Union Council, Arbitration Committee, Executive Committee, Editorial Board, City Broadcasting Channel, College and Division Society, Societies, Affiliated Associations and Student Residents’ Associations.

Objectives

Students’ Union aims to carry forward the spirit of freedom, democracy, independence, self-government, unity and mutual aid; to cultivate a sense of socio-civic consciousness and responsibility among members; to focus on the problems of society, and to participate in and accelerate the development of society; to serve the community; to advance and safeguard the welfare and rights and privileges of members; to widen the academic, cultural and intellectual scope of members, to provide means of communication with the City University of Hong Kong authorities, other external institutions and among members; to participate in the process of formulation of the University’s policies and assist in their implementation upon the request of the University.

Acting President

Lee Chak Hin (Wesley), Creative Media, Year 3

The President shall be the chief executive of the Union and shall be responsible for all administrative affairs and shall represent the Union externally. He/She shall also provide the Council with information on the Union upon request by the Council.

Acting Internal Vice President

Wong Sing Lun (Edwin), College of Business, Year 4

The internal Vice-President shall assist the President in all duties pertaining to internal affairs and shall be the Acting President of the Executive Committee in the absence or resignation of the President. More, the internal department had organized and hold an orientation camp for the freshmen of City University of Hong Kong.

Acting External Vice President

Lai On Man (Haley), Creative Media, Year 4

The External Vice-President shall assist the President in all duties pertaining to external affairs to promote awareness and participation of the student body in social issues in Hong Kong, as well as in the international community. This year, the department of external affairs has been conducting different kinds of activities such as June Fourth Incident forum, which discussed Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 in the new perspectives of localism, and the exhibition of the film called “The Revolutionary Road”, which is a documentary of the “Umbrella Movement” in 2014.

Acting Academic Secretary

Kwok Tung Wong (Alan), Creative Media, Year 4

The Academic Secretary shall be responsible for all academic activities of the Union. Academic department has been conducting various activities this year including lectures on culture like “Occultism Talk”, reading circles that are going to discuss “The Great Transformation, Karl Polanyi, 1944” and “Letter from a Birmingham Jail, Martin Luther King”, and political discussion forum.

Acting Publication Secretary

Fung Wai Yee, Creative Media, Year 4

The Publication Secretary shall be responsible for all publications issued in the name of the Executive Committee. Publication department has designed and distributed schedule books for the members of the Union. In the upcoming months, the department will also publish a few issues of monthly magazines.

Acting External Secretary

Leung Wai Tong, Asian and International studies, year 4

The External Secretary shall assist the External Vice-President in all external affairs and be responsible for all liaison work of the Union.

Acting Current Affairs Secretary

Lam Man Sze, Asian and International studies, year 4

The Current Affairs Secretary shall, together with the External Vice-President, be responsible for promoting awareness and participation of the student body in social issues.

The Internal Secretary

The Internal Secretary shall assist the internal Vice-President in all internal affairs and be responsible for managing all Union facilities.

The General Secretary

The General Secretary shall be responsible for taking minutes at Executive Committee meetings and for the overall administration and secretarial duties of the Executive Committee.

The Financial Secretary

The Financial Secretary shall be responsible for the financial affairs of the Union.

The University affairs Secretary

The University Affairs Secretary shall be responsible for the co-ordination of all Union affairs connected with student participation and representation in the University’s committees.

The Student Welfare Secretary

The Student Welfare Secretary shall be responsible for the general welfare of Union members.

The Public Relations Secretary

The public Relations Secretary shall be responsible for all public relations affairs of the Union.

The Recreation Secretary

The Recreation Secretary shall be responsible for all recreational activities of the Union.

The Sports Secretary

The Sports Secretary shall be responsible for all sports activities of the Union.

The Promotion Secretary

The Promotion Secretary shall be responsible for assisting other Executive Committee members in promoting all activities held by the Union.

The Information Technology Secretary

The Information Technology Secretary shall be responsible for all matters pertaining to information technology of the Union.
