The City Market was added to the National Register of Historic Places for its architectural significance in 1978.

History

The market was commissioned as part of the City Beautiful movement. In 1977, it was designated a landmark by the Madison Landmarks Commission. The building has been used as a dance hall, teen center and as a garage for the city streets department.
