Cirrhopetalum gracillimum, the wispy umbrella orchid, is a species of orchid in the genus Cirrhopetalum found in New Guinea, New Caledonia, Indonesia, Malaysia and limited regions of northern Queensland, Australia (Iron Range, Janet Range, and Tozer Range). In Australia it is found at altitudes ranging from 300-400 metres and flowers from August to March.

Description

Cirrhopetalum gracillimum IOSPE PHOTOS

This orchid has a long inflorescence with 6-10 flowers, each 30-50mm long. The flowers spread in a horizontal semicircle 30-50 x 5-8mm, and are purplish-red with a white to cream labellum. The rootstock is about 2mm thick. The dark olive-green leaves are fairly large and the sepals have long thread-like tails.
