Awards

Named one of the best children’s hospitals in eight specialties by U.S. News & World Report, CHOC earned the Gold Level CAPE Award from the California Council of Excellence, the only children’s hospital in California to ever earn this distinction, and was awarded Magnet designation, the highest honor bestowed to hospitals for nursing excellence.

Emergency Care

CHOC opened the first pediatric only emergency department in Orange County with the opening of the Julia and George Argyros Emergency Department on March 26, 2013. Funded by a five million dollar donation by Julia and George Argyros, the 22,000 square foot emergency department features 31 treatment rooms, including 14 rapid evaluation and discharge exam rooms and three triage suites. The emergency department is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The emergency department also features x-ray imaging and bedside blood draws. MRI and CT scans, as well as surgery, are located steps away from the emergency department in the main hospital.

New Patient Care Tower

CHOC has built a new state-of-the-art patient care tower (South Tower) named the Bill Holmes Tower.

The new CHOC Children’s Hospital continues to provide and expand innovative tertiary and quaternary pediatric care. The seven-story tower adds 425,524 square feet of space and includes a new and advanced pediatric emergency department, operating rooms and related services, laboratory, pathology, imaging and radiology services. The tower also features private rooms and enhanced family amenities.
