'CHATHAMATTOM', a village in Ernakulam District, Kerala, India PIN CODE - 686671.

It is the land of churches and a very beautiful small village. A total of seven churches and two temples within 2 kilometers. One temple is bounded with forest and in the banks of the Mullaringad river. One third of land is reserve forest including teak plantation (teaks up to 4 meters circumference) and the balance is mostly rubber plantation. So 'natural rubber' is the economic backbone of 80% of residents here. Agriculture is the main occupation of people. Ginger, turmeric, coconut, cocoa, paddy, black pepper, plantain and tapioca are commonly cultivated. The main production and staple food is rice.

There is an attractive environmental sight seeing place namely 'Pothencheeni kunnu' (Hill above 300 meters height), give a view of the metro city Kochi in good weather condition and good place for trekking.

Chathamattom is a place of historical importance. The ordnance factory of the ancient kingdom (Thrikkariyoor-the oldest capital of Chera Dynasty) was situated here. At that time Chathamattom was known as Shasthavumattom. Black melted stones or dross (keedon kallukal) broken into pieces when thrown in fire are commonly in some dry lands here is an evidence for ordnance factory.

Sree Narayana Guru College of Arts & Science, Paingottoor

The first Arts & Science college starting soon at Chathamattom is a way to the boom development to this area. College building is under construction on the hill top of previous Pulinkunnam Thottam with in 10 acre campus near very beautiful Pothencheeni Hills.
