Biography

Wilson was born in Market Rasen in Lincolnshire, and educated at De Aston Grammar School. His forebears included small farmers and small businessmen, which contributed to his scepticism of the Marxism that was fashionable during the 1930s.

Wilson went on to Jesus College, Cambridge.

The first two volumes of his three volume history of Unilever were published in 1954.

Wilson was professor of modern history at Cambridge University from 1965 to 1979.
