Charles Edward Burton (1846 – June 9, 1882) was an Irish astronomer.

For some time he worked as an assistant to Lord Rosse at Parsonstown, Ireland.

He provided the first observational evidence for the supposed canals on Mars, which were claimed to exist by Giovanni Schiaparelli.

A crater on Mars was named in his honour.
