Charles Ion Carr Bosanquet (19 April 1903 – 1986) was the first Vice-Chancellor of Newcastle University.
Career
Born the son of Robert Carr Bosanquet, Bosanquet was educated at Winchester College and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he obtained a first class honours degree in History. After a career in business and journalism, he worked as a civil servant during World War II. He then became Treasurer of Christ Church, Oxford. He was appointed Rector of King's College, Newcastle in 1952 and then became the first Vice-Chancellor of Newcastle University in 1963. In that role he welcomed Martin Luther King, Jr. to the University and presented him with a Doctor of Civil Law degree.
In 1931 he married Barbara Schiefflin, an American.
He lived at Rock Moor House near Alnwick and became High Sheriff of Northumberland.
