The Central League was a Class C minor league baseball league that operated in the United States for part of the 1897 season. The league was organized on January 18, 1897, and consisted of six teams from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Severe financial problems throughout the circuit forced the league to disband on July 20. As of July 19, the final day of play, the Nashville/Henderson Centennials were in first place with a 39–29 (.574) record, making them the de facto league champions.
