Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 41.56 square miles (107.64 km2), of which 41.30 square miles (106.97 km2) is land and 0.26 square miles (0.67 km2) is water.
2010 census
As of the census of 2010, there were 306 people, 134 households, and 91 families residing in the town. The population density was 7.4 inhabitants per square mile (2.9/km2). There were 176 housing units at an average density of 4.3 per square mile (1.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 96.4% White, 0.3% African American, 2.6% Native American, and 0.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.3% of the population.
There were 134 households of which 32.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.8% were married couples living together, 11.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 11.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 32.1% were non-families. 28.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.68.
The median age in the town was 45.3 years. 22.9% of residents were under the age of 18; 2% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 24.5% were from 25 to 44; 26.1% were from 45 to 64; and 24.5% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 50.0% male and 50.0% female.

As of the census of 2000, there were 326 people, 135 households, and 100 families residing in the town. The population density was 7.9 people per square mile (3.0/km²). There were 160 housing units at an average density of 3.9 per square mile (1.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 95.71% White, 0.92% African American, 1.84% Native American, 1.53% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.15% of the population.
There were 135 households out of which 25.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.0% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.9% were non-families. 19.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.78.
In the town, the population was spread out with 19.9% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 28.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.8% who were 65 years of age or older.
