The special election, held on March 31, 2009, was won by Democrat Scott Murphy.

Professional life

Schrager graduated from Harvard Law School in 1979 with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) She founded her own law firm, the Law Offices of Carol A. Schrager in 1985.

Her family (the Slutzkys) owned and operated the Hunter Mountain Ski Bowl, the largest privately owned ski resort in New York State, until January 2016 when it was sold to Peak Resorts, a Missouri ski resort company for $36.8 million.
