Eight out of the sixty-five electors did not participate in the conclave: William Henry O'Connell, James Gibbons, Louis-Nazaire Bégin, Sebastiano Martinelli, OSA, Franziskus von Sales Bauer, Kolos Ferenc Vaszary, OSB, Giuseppe Prisco, and François-Virgile Dubillard.
