Canseco (band)

The band started in January 2004 with its original lineup, which was Eugenio Dodero (guitar & vocals), Hector Moreno (guitar), Julio Selva (drums) and Tomas Castrejon (bass). The band recorded two demos in 2004, one in February and the other November. With those two demos the band left Tijuana in the summer of 2005 and went on their first national tour in Mexico, which was totally independent. After establishing a name for themselves they provided two songs for the 2005 "Nuevos Tiempos, Viejos Amigos" compilation, alongside some of the most important bands in the new independent movement in Mexican rock. After this compilation came out, Canseco set their sights in planning what would turn out to be their first full-length album.

There was only one approach in order to create the sound that they had in mind for their debut album "El Tiempo y la Ciudad" ("The Time and The City"). This was to grab a van and start an epic journey from Tijuana all the way to Eudora, Kansas, drenching themselves in roads, landscapes, sunsets and songs. Produced by Robb McLean from Limbeck and mixed by Ed Rose (Motion City Soundtrack, Get Up Kids, Reggie and the Full Effect), the twelve tracks that make up this album, represent one of the most mature and originals debuts in the last few years in Mexican rock. With influences that range from pop (in the finest tradition of the Beatles), alt-country, indie rock and even punk rock, it would be shortsighted to pigeonhole them under a trendy moniker. Full of catchy melodies, acoustic guitars and heartwarming stories, "El Tiempo y la Ciudad" introduces us to a road-tested band, one that reminisces the glory days of AM rock radio with a 21st-century spin, one that personifies the duality of being raised next to the most transited border of the world. One with an indelible melodic style, which separates from the rest of the contemporary tendencies and peers, positioning them in their own stratosphere.

In July 2007 Julio Selva left the band due to musical and professional differences, and Francisco Rodriguez took his place as drummer, making their current line up: Eugenio Dodero (guitar and vocals), Hector Moreno (guitar), Francisco Rodriguez (drums) and Tomas Castrejon (bass).

Touring for 2 years in support of El Tiempo y la Ciudad, brought them much touring success with important shows such as Vive Latino 2007 (Latin America's most important rock festival), SXSW 2007 (South by Southwest Festival) in Austin, Texas, opening for Nada Surf in Mexico City and the 2007 tour in Mexico of Keane. They were also a part of "Rock al Campus", the biggest college tour in the history of Latin Rock which included 17 cities in Mexico, playing more than 60 shows, with the bands Thermo, Finde and Tolidos.

The band is currently working on their second record which will be released in 2010, and is one of the most anticipated records of the year.
