Overview

As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 139 Canning Purba (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is composed of the following: Deuli I, Deuli II, Kalikatala, Matherdighi, Sarengabad, Tambuldaha I and Tambuldaha II gram panchayats of Canning II community development block and Bodra, Chandaneswar I, Chandaneswar II, Durgapur, Shanksahar and Tarda gram panchayats of Bhangar I community development block.

Canning Purba (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 19 Jaynagar (Lok Sabha constituency).

2011

In 2011, Abdur Razzak Molla of CPI(M) defeated his nearest rival Ibrahim Molla of Congress.

1977-2006 Canning East

Abdur Razzak Molla of CPI(M) won the Canning East seat from 1977 to 2006 defeating Amirul Islam of Trinamool Congress in 2006, Mujibar Rahman Kayal of Congress in 2001, Akram Laskar of Congress in 1996, Abdus Sattar Mollah of Congress in 1991, Amar Nath Bandopadhyay of Congress in 1987, Ahammad Nuruzzaman of Congress in 1982 and Osman Gani of Congress in 1977.

1957-1972 Canning

Gobinda Chandra Naskar of Congress won in 1972 and 1971. Narayan Naskar of Congress won in 1969. A.C.Halder of Bangla Congress won in 1967. Khagendra Nath Naskar of Congress won in 1962. In 1957 Canning was a dual seat. It was won by Khagendra Nath Naskar and Abdus Shukur, both of Congress.
