The Canadian Educational Standards Institute or CESI is an organisation intended to provide accreditation and evaluation of Canadian independent schools wishing to use CESI standards and designation. CESI is supported by independent member schools and is administered by a Board of Directors composed of current or past members of these schools' boards of governors, heads of schools, and other members-at-large with experience and interest in independent school education.

CESI enables each member school to be assessed and evaluated against a set of educational and operational standards to ensure a high quality educational environment and also permit each school to set its own goals and enshrine its own values.

CESI's two main purposes are:

  • To provide public assurance that its member schools meet its stated standards.
  • To enable its member schools to conduct internal & external reviews by bringing in expert teachers from other independent schools and from within CESI itself to assist each member school's review.
  • In October 2009, CESI and the Canadian Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) formed a new national organization, SEAL Canada (Standards in Excellence And Learning in Canada).
