Barangay Cabilang Baybay is an urban barangay in the municipality of Carmona in Cavite, Philippines. It is situated in the northern part of the municipality, about one kilometer from the town proper of Carmona. According to the 2010 Census, it has a population of 6,344 people in a land area of 315 hectares (780 acres).

Barangay profile

Barangay Cabilang Baybay is located in the northern part of the municipality of Carmona, approximately 36 kilometres (22 mi) south of Manila and 21 kilometres (13 mi) from Trece Martires City, Cavite’s provincial capital. It is bounded to the east by the Barangay Maduya and a small portion of the city of Biñan, Laguna; by the municipality of General Mariano Alvarez (GMA) to the north and northwest; by Poblacion 8 to the southeast; and by Barangay Mabuhay to the south and southwest.

With a total land area of 315 hectares (780 acres), Cabilang Baybay occupies 10.2% of the total land area of Carmona at 3,092 hectares (7,640 acres). Carmona represents 2.17% of the total land area of Cavite province.

Topography

The topography of Barangay Cabilang Baybay is generally flat to strongly rolling or sloping and found in the mountain foothills. Barangay Cabilang Baybay has a range of 3–8% slope, with gently sloping areas, gently undulating and rolling lands.

Climate

Barangay Cabilang Baybay has two pronounced seasons – the dry season, which usually begins in November and ends in April, and the rainy season, which starts in May and ends in October. Barangay Cabilang Baybay has cool periods from December to February, while summer months are from April to May. March, April, May, June, and July are the warmest months with an average temperature of 28.8 °C (83.8 °F). January, February and December are cooler with an average temperature of 25.8 °C (78.4 °F).

History

During the Spanish era, there was only one sitio, inhabited by some families. Their homes were huts only, and farming was their living. In the beginning the area had no name. To have a name the Cabeza de Barangay appeared in court, and suggested it be called Cabilang Baybay as it is on the other shore of the river and on the other side of the field. The request was then adopted by the Governor-General Leonard Wood.

  • Cottage industries include metal works, metalcraft, footwear industries, concrete products, tricycle assembly, rattan handicrafts and bakeries. Manufacturing firms engaged in handicraft (bags and shoes), furniture making, business retailing, personal and business services, and food based enterprises contribute to the municipality’s trade and commerce. Mercantile activities in the municipality are concentrated in the Poblacion area and along Governor’s Drive.
  • Barangay Cabilang Baybay's progress accelerated after the conversion of more than half of the hectares of farmlands into industrial areas in 1998. Garment industries, steel fabrication, microchips and semi-conductors, tool fabrication, bus assembly, bulb factories, die casting and other small and medium-scale industries currently operate in the municipality. These investments continue to provide local employment, generate export earnings, increase municipal revenues and serve as vehicles for technology transfer. Foreign investments are pouring in as export-oriented industries continue to flourish.
