CCGS Caporal Kaeble is the second of nine Hero-class patrol vessels to be delivered to the Canadian Coast Guard .
The vessel is named after Joseph Kaeble, a winner of the Victoria Cross in the First World War.
On February 10, 2011 the London Free Press reported that CCGS Caporal Kaeble V.C., and her sister ship CCGS Private Robertson V.C. will patrol the Great Lakes.
According to the Halifax Shipping News Caporal Kaeble V.C. was first "rolled out" in April 2012, to be painted, and again in June, to have her masts installed. They predicted she would be commissioned in October. The vessel was formally "unveiled" on November 13, 2012 at the Irving Shipyards in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she was built.
According to CBC News Canadian Minister of Defence Peter MacKay announced that Canada was considering arming the Hero-class vessels, during a speech he delivered at the unveiling ceremony.
