CAD, GIS & GPS Magazine is a portal in Arabic, concerned with engineering software related to computer aided design (CAD) software, like AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Archicad. The portal also focuses on geographical information system (GIS) software such as ArcView, ArcGIS, Autodesk Map, MapInfo, and GeoMedia, in addition to global positioning system (GPS) technology, remote sensing (RS) software like ERDAS Imagine, and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software, such as Inventor and Mechanical Desktop.

History

Established in 2000 by Samer Joudi (Arabic: سامر الجودي‎‎), this portal is intended for Arab countries as well as Arabic speakers outside the Arab region. It aims to raise awareness of CAD, GIS, GPS, RS, and CAM technologies, connect users of these technologies, and help users develop their knowledge and their academic qualifications in these areas. The portal also seeks to develop the Arabic language through the founding and maintaining dictionary of unified technical terminology used in these fields so that it can be used consistently across the 22 Arab countries.

Services

CAD, GIS & GPS Magazine attempts to meet the needs of engineers, technicians, and university students with sections like News and Teach Yourself sections, in addition to the Forums, which have thousands of members. In the tens of thousands of topics in these forums, members share their experiences and knowledge and collaborate to help themselves overcome the technical issues they face daily.

The Downloads section consists of selected freeware and shareware. The Gallery section hosts hundreds of three-dimensional creative rendered models. Libraries is a popular section full of off-the-rack 2D and 3D objects. The Articles section includes articles by professionals and specialists in CAD, GIS, GPS, RS, and CAM technologies.

The Dictionaries section, in Arabic and English, aims at developing unified technical terminology of CAD, GIS, GPS, RS, and CAM technologies.
