Clarke made a single appearance in first-class cricket for the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) against Oxford University in 1837 at the Magdalen Ground. In a match which the Marylebone Cricket Club won by 5 wickets, Clarke remained not out on 1 in the MCC first-innings, while in their second-innings he was dismissed for a duck by Alfred Lowth.
