Buta is a town and seat of Buta Territory in the northern Democratic Republic of the Congo, lying on the Rubi River, a tributary of the Itimbiri River. It is headquarters of Bas-Uele Province. As of 2009 it had an estimated population of 50,130.

It is home to an airport and lies on the defunct narrow gauge railway from Bumba to Isiro.

In early 2005 the town was the centre of an outbreak of pulmonary plague.
