The village developed around a manor, owned by noble Cyprian Brzostowski in 1635. Later the manor was reconstructed by architect Laurynas Gucevičius. A wooden octagonal church, named after Saint George, was built in 1785. In 1903, French linguist Robert Gauthiot published Le parler de Buividze, a study on the local dialect of the Lithuanian language. The church burned down in 1982; a brick replacement church was completed in 1986.
