The Budhal are a Punjabi tribe. This small tribe is supposed to be allied to the Bhakral, both tribes having are said to come across from Jhelum River from Jammu and Kashmir. The Budhal are a branch of the Awan tribe. They occupy a block of villages, in Gujar Khan Tehsil, Dhoke Budhal being the most important one. They are also found in majority in villages such as Bishandour (Tehsil Sohawa), Khabbal (on GT Road, Tehsil Sohawa), Barki Badhal (near Gujar Khan city, on GT Road), Sahot Badhal (Tehsil Kahota, District Rawalpindi) and Garmala (near Kountrila, Tehsil Gujar Khan). Generally Budhals use Raja as their sir name. Their customs are similar to other tribes in the vicinity, speaking the Pothohari language and following Sunni Islam.
