Buddleja 'Lochinch' is an old hybrid cultivar raised from a chance seedling found in the garden of the Earl of Stair at Lochinch Castle, Scotland, c. 1940; the shrub's parents believed to be Buddleja davidii and Buddleja fallowiana. One of the most popular buddlejas of all time, 'Lochinch' was accorded the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit (record 672) in 1993, reaffirmed in 2010.[1]

Description

'Lochinch' is a vigorous, dense shrub growing to a height of 2.0 m if hard-pruned annually. The shrub is distinguished by its combination of silvery grey - green foliage and fragrant terminal panicles 25 cm long, comprising violet-blue flowers with orange eyes.

'Lochinch' is widely and commonly cultivated in the USA and Europe, notably the UK. Hardiness: RHS H5. USDA zones 6–8.
