Buddleja 'Podaras13', selling name Flutterby Petite Tutti Fruitti Pink, is one of the 'Flutterby Petite'™ series of sterile hybrid cultivars raised by Peter Podaras whilst at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, and patented in 2011. Flutterby Petite Tutti Fruitti Pink was derived from the crossing (B. davidii × B. alternifolia) × B. davidii. [1]

Description

Flutterby Petite Tutti Fruitti Pink makes a small shrub with an upward, spreading habit, growing to a maximum of 0.75 × 0.75 m, with dense compound terminal and axillary conical panicles about 10.5 cm long by 3.5 cm wide, comprising around 280 scentless purple-violet flowers. The flowers emerge in spring and persist until the first frosts of the fall in California. The opposite, elliptical leaves are about 4.8 cm long by 1.7 cm wide, smooth, glabrous above and lanulose below. [2] [3]

Cultivation

Flutterby Petite Tutti Fruitti Pink was introduced to Europe in 2012 by Plantipp, Netherlands, as one of their Free Petite™ series. The shrub is reputedly hardy to - 29° C. [4] In the UK, a specimen is grown as part of the NCCPG national buddleja collection held by Longstock Park Nursery near Stockbridge, Hampshire.
