Buddleja 'Podaras1', selling name = Flutterby Grande Vanilla, is a sterile hybrid cultivar raised by Peter Podaras whilst at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, and patented in 2011. Flutterby Grande Vanilla is the result of a crossing of B. × weyeriana 'Honeycomb' × B. davidii. [1]

Description

Flutterby Grande Vanilla has an upright and spreading habit, growing to 1.8 × 1.8 m, with compound terminal and axillary conical panicles, < 11 cm long by 6 cm wide, comprising around 525 faintly fragrant creamy white flowers with orange eyes. The opposite, narrowly elliptic leaves are about 15 cm long by 2.5 cm wide, with lanulose surfaces. [2] [3]

Cultivation

Flutterby Grande Vanilla is not known (2012) to be in cultivation beyond the USA. The shrub is reputedly hardy to - 29° C.[4]
