The Light Flyweight class in the boxing at the 1996 Summer Olympics competition was the lightest class at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Light Flyweights were limited to those boxers weighing more than 48 kilograms. The competition in the Alexander Memorial Coliseum started on 1996-07-20 and ended on 1996-08-03.

Gold medal controversy

The gold medal match where Velasco lost was hailed as "The Robbery in Atlanta". Velasco would hit opponent Daniel Petrov with telling blows, and the scores would be counted for Petrov. The Bulgarian, who was barely throwing any punches, was on a joy ride to an Olympic gold medal. It appeared that the judges were pressing the buttons on their electronic scoring equipment for the wrong boxer. The Bulgarian was still awarded the gold medal despite the numerous protests.
