Boston city council elections were held on November 3, 2009 with preliminary elections on September 22, 2009. All 13 seats (9 district representatives and 4 at-large members) were contested.

At-Large
John R. Connolly, Stephen J. Murphy, Felix G. Arroyo, and Ayanna Pressley won the four At-Large seats. Incumbent At-Large Councilors Michael F. Flaherty and Sam Yoon did not run for re-election as they were running for Mayor.
Pressley's victory made her first woman of color to be elected to the council in its history.
District 1
Councilor Salvatore LaMattina was re-elected.
District 2
Councilor Bill Linehan ran unopposed.
District 3
Councilor Maureen Feeney ran unopposed.
District 4
Councilor Charles Yancey ran unopposed.
District 5
Councilor Robert Consalvo ran unopposed.
District 6
Councilor John M. Tobin, Jr. ran unopposed.
District 7
Councilor Chuck Turner was re-elected.
District 8
Councilor Michael P. Ross was reelected.
District 9
Councilor Mark Ciommo was re-elected.
