Drljača was born in Donja Suvaja, Yugoslavia, during World War II (at the time part of the Axis Independent State of Croatia), into a Serb family of father Branko and mother Stoja. His mother died during the war, when Bora was still a toddler. He has no memories of her and no pictures. His father later remarried after the war. According to Bora, his worst days in his life was when the Yugoslav Wars started; Bosnian television didn't want to play his songs because he was Serb and Serbian television didn't want to play his songs because he was from Bosnia.

Bora is a widower and lives in Belgrade, Serbia. He has two married sons.
