Black Sports Magazine was a magazine that launched in April 1971 in New York City and closed later that decade. The magazine was published on a monthly basis.
The magazine was the first major sports magazine aimed specifically at Blacks. The magazine was the brainchild of Allan P. Barron, who became President and Editor. Barron teamed with William L. Doneghy, who came aboard as Vice-President and Controller. In 1971, Bryant Gumbel became editor of the magazine, leaving the following year.
The magazine failed in the 1970s and ceased publication in 1978.
