Black Sea Studios was a Bulgarian video game developer founded by Vesselin Handjiev (a.k.a. Frujin) in 2001 and based in Sofia. The company is most famous for Knights of Honor, a historical real-time strategy game released for Windows in 2004, and for the real-time strategy title WorldShift, which was released in May 2008.
On July 14, 2008, Crytek, makers of Far Cry and Crysis, announced they have bought Black Sea Studios and renamed it to Crytek Black Sea.
On May 22, 2014, Crytek announced the development of their own MOBA game using the CryEngine, titled Arena of Fate and under development at the Sofia studio. The game was shown at E3 2014 and is expected to be released on PC, as well as several as of yet unannounced console systems.
On December 20, 2016, Crytek announced that it was closing 5 of its 7 studios around the world due to financial troubles, including the one in Sofia.
On December 26, 2016, Black Sea Games was announced by former Crytek Black Sea leads.
