William T. Bagley (born June 29, 1928) is an American politician in the state of California.

He is the son of Nino J. and Rita V. (Thompson) Baglietto.

In 1949, he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Permanent Class President, and Valedictorian from the University of California - Berkeley. He was awarded a juris doctorate in 1952 from Boalt School of Law, where he also served on the Board of Editors of the California Law Review.

He served in the California Assembly as a Republican from 1960 to 1974, representing Marin and Sonoma Counties (then, Assembly District 7). He authored over 500 pieces of civil law legislation, including the Public Records Act and the Bagley-Keene Open Meeting Act. He served as chairman of the Assembly Welfare Committee, Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee, Joint Committee on National Tax Policy, Finance and Insurance Committee, Judiciary Committee, Statewide Information Policy Committee, and Special Committee on Open Public Records. He was a member of the California Advisory Committee of the United States Commission on Civil Rights and other federal and intergovernmental boards and committees.

His awards include, but are not limited to, the following: Most Effective Assemblyman by the Capitol Press Corps, Legislator of the Year by the California Trial Lawyers Association, the Golden Bear Award from the California State Park and Recreation Commission for outstanding contributions to California beaches and parks, and the Freedom of Information Award from Sigma Delta Chi.

Bagley served as the first Chairman of the Commodities Trading Commission from 04/15/75 – 11/15/78, appointed by President Gerald Ford. He was Governor George Deukmejian's first appointee to the California Public Utilities Commission (1093-1986) and California Transportation Commission (1983-1989). He served on various boards including the National Futures Association and as chairman of the board of the California Council for Environmental and Economic Balance (CEEB).

From 1989-2002, Bagley served as a member of the University of California Board of Regents and in 2002, was named Alumnus of the Year by the California Alumni Association. 

In 1987, the stretch of California Highway 101 from the Robin Williams (nee Waldo) Tunnel to San Rafael was named the William T. Bagley Freeway.
