Bienosaurus (meaning "Bien's lizard") was a dinosaur from the Early Jurassic (probably Sinemurian). The genus was an armoured dinosaur from the Lower Lufeng Formation in Yunnan Province in China.
Discovery and species
In 1938, Bian Meinian discovered a fragmentary dinosaur skull. In 2001, Dong Zhiming named and described the specimen, based on a right lower jaw and teeth. Other known material includes a nearly complete right mandibular ramus with teeth and several cranial fragments. The type species is B. lufengensis. It is believed to share close affinities with Scelidosaurus.
