Bergen County Jail is a facility operated by the Bergen County Sheriff's Office located at 160 South River Street in Hackensack, New Jersey. The jail provides a detention for both sentenced and unsentenced prisoners from minimum to maximum security environment. There are computer controls of inmate housing areas, in addition to alarm system and a computerized center control.

The jail also houses detainees of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. On February 13, 2007, 22-year-old ICE detainee Nery Romero hanged himself in his cell. Romero was recovering from surgery in which metal pins had been placed in his leg and was taking strong prescription painkillers. According to Romero's cellmates and family, authorities failed to provide Romero with painkillers despite his repeated requests. In a letter written to his mother shortly before his death, Romero stated: "I'm in hell. They don't give me nothing for my pain."
