Belarusian Party "The Greens"

The Belarusian Party "The Greens" (Belarusian: Беларуская партыя "Зялёныя", Biełaruskaja Partyja "Zialonyja") is an Eco-socialist political party in Belarus which opposes the administration of president Alexander Lukashenko. It was created in 1994. The leader of the party is Aleh Novikaŭ. Aleh Novikaŭ is also known as Lolik Uškin. The party has anti-corporatist, almost anti-globalist rhetoric. In legislative elections held between 13–17 October 2004, the party did not secure any seats.

The party claims to support creation of a healthy environment for the person because social and environmental conditions create a maximum of conditions for person's development.

Despite the fact that Belarus was contaminated by radiation after the Chernobyl disaster, green from 1996 to 2008, almost did not participate in political and public life of the country and the elections.

In late 2008, the Belarusian Party "The Greens" created a special commission on LGBT rights. "Green" became the first political party in Belarus who publicly and officially announced collaboration with LGBT intention to fight against homophobia and to defend the rights of sexual minorities as part of the human rights system.

Belarusian Party "The Greens" opposed to the practice of the death penalty in Belarus, which remains the last country in Europe where there was such inhumane form of punishment. The party believes that the death penalty - is, including the possibility of a miscarriage of justice. The party also sharply criticized the US government, which still allows the death penalty.

In November 2011, members of the party, strongly condemning the institution of the death penalty, took part in the campaign against petitsiynoy possible execution of Dmitri Konovalov and Vladislav Kovalev, accused in the explosion in Minsk subway April 11, 2011.

The party is an associate member party of the European Green Party.
