Stable release 0.9.7.1 (October 22, 2005; 11 years ago (2005-10-22)) [±] Website sourceforge.net/projects/beepmp License GNU General Public License |
The Beep Media Player (BMP) is an audio player application based on the XMMS multimedia player. It was under development from 2003 - 2006 before development switched to BMPx. Along with the announcement of the 0.9.7.1 release, the BMP development team also announced that BMP would not be actively developed any longer. Instead, the team would spend development effort on the next generation of BMP, called BMPx (discontinued). There is also a fork of classic BMP called Audacious. The lead developer of BMP was Milosz “deadchip” Derezynski.
Design
BMP was mainly a port of XMMS to GTK+ 2 and, as such, integrated better with the look and feel of more recent versions of GNOME, Xfce and, if using the GTK-Qt theme engine for KDE, KDE desktop environments. Like XMMS, BMP looked like Winamp and supported Winamp and XMMS skins.
