Battle of Macalangit

The Battle of Macalangit, or the Macalangit Skirmish, occurred in September 9–12, 2007, in the forests of Sitio Macalangit, Brgy. New Israel, Makilala, Cotabato, Philippines, four days after Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the president of the Philippines that time, signed Amnesty Proclamation 1377 for members of the Communist Party of the Philippines and its armed wing, the New People's Army. But three days later, not satisfied with the amnesty, the NPA conducted a raid in Brgy. New Israel proper, killing 2 soldiers of the 176th ID and three civilians in the process. Elements of the 176th ID later retaliated by raiding their encampment in the forests of the said sitio, inflicting more than 100 casualties on the NPA side while suffering two casualties – one dead and one wounded – throughout the skirmish within three days of fighting. In the aftermath, the bodies of the killed NPAs were paraded in Brgy. Bulatukan. The fighting seriously depleted the rebel organization of manpower and resources to carry out the protracted people's war in the entirety of southern Philippines.
