Barbara F. Lee (born July 3, 1945) is an American philanthropist. She founded and leads the Barbara Lee Family Foundation and the Barbara Lee Political Office, both located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Major targets of Lee's donations include the Boston's Institute of Contemporary Art and Hillary Clinton's 2016 U.S. presidential campaign.

Biography

Barbara Fish Lee was raised in a middle-class Jewish family in West Orange, New Jersey, the daughter of Sidney and Ruth Fish. Her father was a dentist and her mother a homemaker. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Simmons College in 1967. In 1968, at the age of 22, she married Thomas H. Lee, a budding investor. She later obtained a master's degree from Boston University's School of Social Work.

She has been included in Boston Magazine's list of the "50 Most Powerful Women in Boston" and “100 Women Who Run This Town".

In 1995, she divorced private equity investor Thomas H. Lee. They have two sons. In 2006, her net worth was estimated at $213 million.
