Balmoral state high school


Balmoral State High School is a secondary school situated in Balmoral, Queensland, Australia. The school opened in January 1958 having been built as part of the rush for science of that area.

It currently services over five hundred and fifty students and is a part of the Gateway Learning Community. (GLC) The GLC consists of seven local schools; six primary and Balmoral State High School. The GLC is committed to improving education and learning throughout the local community.

Balmoral State High School has many academic, sporting and cultural programmes. Among these are the year book/magazine; The Balmoral State High School Boeing Enterprise Team and Aerospace Studies.

Balmoral State High School is one of the 25 aerospace schools that offer the Aerospace subject. This has been done in partnership with public and private institutes so as to help increase the employment of engineers and trained personal in the a regional aerospace industry. The Balmoral State High School Boeing Enterprise Team is only one of the selected programmes in Queensland. This programme allows student to tackle real life problems for a real company, for real solutions and to increase the students employability skills.

Balmoral State High School is one of the first secondary schools in the city of Brisbane to start an active travel (to and from school) programme. This is aimed to help the students become healthier, fitter and lower the carbon footprint. It is held every Wednesday and is now getting 76% of students every Wednesday to actively travel to school, that is walking, riding, wheelling, carpooling or catching public transport to and from school.

Balmoral State High hosts many students of Aboriginal and Islander background. Recently the Asian/African student population has grown.
