Biography
Bai Baoshan was born in Xushui County, Hebei Province, China in 1958.
Baoshan was originally sentenced to 13 years in prison in 1983 for a murder he committed during a failed robbery. In March 1996, after being released from prison, Baoshan stole a police officer's semiautomatic gun and used it to kill one person while wounding six others, four of which were policemen, in Beijing. He was also believed to have killed a cigarette vendor in a robbery before leaving town and travelling to Hebei Province. In Hebei, he killed one person and stole a policeman's automatic rifle. He then went to the capital of Xinjiang province, Urumqi. Baoshan and two accomplices killed 10 people, including police officers, security guards and civilians, and stole 1.5 million yuan ($180,000). Baoshan killed one of his accomplices, Wu Ziming, and made off with the money.
Baoshan returned to Beijing in October 1997 and was arrested on October 16, 1997. He was charged with 14 murders and sent to Xinjiang province for trial. He was sentenced to death and executed by a single gunshot to the head on May 6, 1998.
