Bahuni

Bahuni is a Village Development Committee in Morang District in the Koshi Zone of South-Eastern Nepal. With reference to National Population and Housing Census, 2011, it had a population of 12,180 people living in 2,810 individual households. Among the total population, 5,649 are Males while 6,531 are Females. The population Density is 317 per Km Square.

The Purano Bahuni Bazaar was the 2nd oldest market of Morang district after Rangeli. Later the bazaar was shifted near the canal side and founded the Bahuni Bazaar Bikash Samitee. The VDC also holds a dense forest named Singhadevi Community Forest which is divided by the East-West highway

The neighbouring VDC's are Bayarban, Hoklabari, Dangihat, Kaseni, Babiyabirta, and municipalities are Letang and Belbari. Chisang river separates Bahuni from Bayarban and it is a major headache to the villagers during the monsoon season as it drastically sweeps away vast area of land threatening lives, cultivating lands, houses and animals. Each year, villagers lose significant amount of cultivating land due to the river covering it with sand and debries.

This Village development is accessible from the major highway of Nepal (East West Highway famously known as The Mahendra Highway). There are couple of private schools in the region while government schools are quite low in number and hence in productivity. As none of the higher education providing institutions are available within this committee, students are forced to move into nearby cities and towns among which majority are found to be following the trend in places like Biratnagar, Ithari, Belbari, Dharan and few who can afford higher education financially do even move to the capital city.

Industrial activities are very much limited while micro finances and cooperatives are run as financial institutions. Agriculture and foreign remittance is the main source of income to the people of the VDC where rice is cultivated and produced in huge quantity as the land is immensely fertile for the production of wheat, rice, barley, rye, potatoes, jute, mustard and many other cash crops. Despite these facts, the agriculture is still totally based on traditional way enduring difficulties and hard practices.

Big machinery is very rare although some rice mills, and some small workshops can be encountered.

There is an only cinema hall Hanumaan Chalchitra Mandir for basically youth population to entertain latest Nepali and Hindi movies that covers almost the area Constituency 3 of Morang district.

Kaalithaan Mandir which lies near the Chisaang river is the most famous temple of the area receiving maximum devotees both from India and Nepal. Shree Nava Durga Panchayan Mandir built recently on Kadamchowk(near Bajgain tole) have also become a part of attention in the region.

Bahuni consist an oil mining center at Bahuni-9 and project was on the way but later it was stopped by the government because of peer-pressure from india as said by the reporters.
