The Badidae (the chameleonfishes) are a small family (about 23 species) of perciform fishes. Members of this family are found in freshwater lowlands of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Mahanadi basins, in Nepal, India, and Bangladesh; and, Irrawaddy in Myanmar and China (Dario species). They are small fish with the largest, Badis assamensis reaching a length of 6.8 cm (2.7 in) while the smallest, Dario dario, does not exceed 2 cm (0.79 in).
