BBC Studios is a division of the BBC launched in April 2016. It brings together the majority of the former BBC Television division's in-house production departments; Comedy, Drama (both combined as Scripted in the new division), Entertainment, Music & Events, Religion & Ethics and Factual. BBC News, Children's and Sport remain separate internal production divisions in the BBC. The rest of the former BBC Television division (channels and genre commissioning, BBC Sport, BBC Three and BBC iPlayer) are now known as BBC Content.

BBC Studios is headed by Mark Linsey, who succeeded Peter Salmon in March 2016. BBC Studios was formally split from BBC Television in April 2016, with the intention of it becoming a wholly owned commercial subsidiary in April 2017. In October 2016, it was announced that 300 staff would be made redundant - equivalent to 15% of the workforce. The BBC Trust approved the creation of BBC Studios as a commercial subsidiary in December 2016.
