BAE Tungurahua was a ship in the Ecuadorian navy during World War II, when she was bought from a private owner and refitted shortly after the nation declared war on Japan. However, it was scrapped after less than six months having serial engine troubles. A refit was considered too expensive. It was named after a volcano in the province of Tungurahua in Ecuador.

Name

The Tungurahu Province of Ecuador is one of the twenty-four provinces in the country, and the province itself is named after the Tungurahu (literally 'throat of fire') volcano which is over 5,000 metres tall.
